We are the champions

Posted by Nishit Shah on September 25th, 2007

Yippie ! I can’t believe it.. I thought I would miss the finals but thanks to the awesome place called Directi where I work, everyone in my office got to watch the match that too on a big screen. Earlier in the day I walked into the office disappointed as I won’t be able to watch the finals but hey as soon as I login, I get a mail from Bhavin (Founder- CEO Directi ) saying that arrangements have been made for a giant screen along with snacks and soft drinks for a whole office at ClubLink in Malad. Imagine there were 400 odd young crowd cheering for team India for every good stroke we played. We had a blast.. I have never enjoyed watching a cricket match soo much in my life. Kudos to the great company I work for. Reminds of We are the champions by Queens.

In search for the perfect LCD TV

Posted by Nishit Shah on September 24th, 2007

Samsung LCD TV

Why LCD TV ? Coz I can afford it ;)

I was looking forward to buy a 32″ LCD TV for my hall for a while. I am not one of those who settle for mediocre stuff. My hunt for a perfect LCD TV started a month back and it took me to places like Croma , HyperCity, Sumaria , Vijay Sales, Samsung Digitall, etc and I also checked the best possible LCD available online at review sites like Mouth Shut, Compare India , etc. I finally narrowed down on Samsung LA32R81B for a price tag of 52K. I was impressed with Samsung’s picture quality and this model has like 3 HDMI ports which is really cool. Brand, after sales service and good features helped me to choose this one other other LCD.

The above is the actual pic of my LCD :)

The greatest game ever played

Posted by Nishit Shah on September 15th, 2007

 The greatest game ever played

The Greatest Game Ever Played is biographical sports film based on the amateur golf player Francis Ouimet. The film’s screenplay was adapted by Mark Frost from his book, The Greatest Game Ever Played: Harry Vardon, Francis Ouimet, and the Birth of Modern Golf.

Had got an opportunity to play Golf once and would love to play it more often. At that time I came to know about Vardon Grip which is used by almost all of the professional golfers around the world. So, I came home and did some Googling to learn more about it and I landed on this movie. These days people are going ga ga over Chak De India, this is a real story which tells a tale of amateur beating a professional in his own game.

Set in 1913, the film is about golfer Francis Ouimet, an amateur who was expected to fare poorly at the 1913 U.S. Open, and who was supposedly incapable of competing against professionals. Additionally, to discontinue an ongoing feud with his father, Francis agrees to get a real job and never play golf again. However, after getting a once-in-a-lifetime offer, Francis goes back on his word and competes for the U. S. Open crown. Against all odds, he managed to beat the British champions Harry Vardon and Ted Ray, who were considered the world’s best golfers.

This movie is really very inspirational. A must watch of you like golf, movies based on true stories or if you need some inspiration.

Roots

Lost in transition

< Life in a slow motion. Like this pic. Took in from the bus.>
Took an extended weekend break from work ( sat, sun, mon) and went with my family to the villages in remote Gujarat where my grandfather and great grandfather used to live. There were around 35 of us and boy what a gr8 time we had. We boarded a train from Bombay to a place called Than in Gujarat and from there we traveled for 3 days to all the places in a luxury bus. The best part was the train journey as almost half the boogie was booked for our family. I had a blast going to remote places and meeting new people. I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to drive a tractor ( Yes! and I drove it pretty well ), ride on a bullock cart and eat cotton buds directly off the fields. I really cherish all those moments. It game me ample time to experiment with photography while riding past lush green farms of corn, cotton, maize, etc. I saw many different kinds of birds too and was lucky enough to spot a bald Owl on a tree. I had always said no for this trip coz I was too busy with work but eventually said yes to my cousins. Looking back it was a good decision :)

Reminds me of the song roots by Sepultura

Roots Bloody Roots
Roots Bloody Roots
Roots Bloody Roots
Roots Bloody Roooaaaaaahh

I
Believe in our fate
We don’t need to fake
It’s all we wanna be
Watch me freeeaaak !!

I say
We’re growing every day
Getting stronger in every way
I’ll take you to a place
Where we shall find our

Roots Bloody Roots
Roots Bloody Roots
Roots Bloody Roots
Roots Bloody Roots

Rain
Bring me the strength
To get to another day
and all I want to see
Set us free

Why
Can’t you see
Can’t you feel
This is real
Ahhh

I pray
We don’t need to change
Our ways to be saved
That all we wanna be
Watch us freak

Steve Jobs - talking about Leopard, the upcoming version of OS X - in his Apple WWDC keynote:

“We’ve got a basic version, which is going to cost $129. We’ve got a Premium version, which is gonna cost $129. We’ve got a business version, $129. We’ve got an enterprise version, $129. And we’ve got the ultimate version, we’re throwing everything into it, it’s $129. We think most people will buy the ultimate version.”

Knocked Up

Posted by Nishit Shah on September 4th, 2007

Knocked Up Saw some really good movies over the weekend. Knocked Up is a hilarious, poignant and refreshing look at the rigors of courtship and child-rearing, with a sometimes raunchy, always witty script that is ably acted and directed. Ben Stone is a 23-year-old slacker, whereas slightly older Alison Scott is responsible and career-minded. One night, Alison and Ben find themselves at the same club, have a one night fling which leads into a misinterpretation of the phrase “just do it already“, but when the alcohol wears off, they quickly learn they have little in common. Eight weeks later, however, Alison discovers that she is pregnant and contacts Ben, who says he will be there to support Alison having the baby. The odd couple’s efforts to develop a relationship include a marriage proposal from Ben… watch the movie to know what happens next. Really funny movie. Rated prety high in Rotten Tomatoes.
